Dean and Mary Ann spent a lot of time on the road in 2005, some of it on our own, and some of it together. Here are some recollections, with links to stories and pictures.
Jan 7-9. Emily's wedding in Kansas City. I'd never met her, but she's my cousin Bob's daughter. I spent three days there with him and his sister, neither of whom I'd seen for about 40 years.
Feb. 25-28. Up to New York City to see the Christo Gates in Central Park, then down to Washington, DC, for another Soup Bowl.
March 12 - 13. Hang gliding lessons in Chattanooga with Myles while Dave and Mary Ann watched and wondered.
March 13 - 30. Road trip! Four thousand miles on back roads. I drove solo to Grand Junction, Colorado, for Aunt Bonnie's 104th birthday, with lots of stops before and after. Mary Ann joined me in Denver for a few days.
May 8. Back to Chattanooga with Myles for more hang gliding lessons--this time time to really glide! He loved it. I was scared.
June 4 -17. Mary Ann went to Tanzania. Two weeks of really hard work. She did so well, they're sending her back to a couple more African countries.
July 3-16. We went to Alaska. Bears! Whales! Salmon! Glaciers! Huge flowers! Double wonderful.
Sept. 14-19. Dean to New England as a traveling handy man.
Oct. 1-11. To California with Mary Ann for my 50th high school reunion and lots more, including a visit to the remains of a WWII bomber that crashed just above our ranch when I was a boy.
Dec. 8-19. To Illinois to visit friends and relatives in Springfield and to help remodel Dylan & Laura's house in Watson for the April arrival of the next Fenley.
