The first stop on my long road trip out to Colorado was Chattanooga, Tennessee.   Mary Ann, Dave, Myles, and I had driven up from Atlanta in two cars.  We spent a day at the aquarium and another in a park with animal rides. Big fish.jpg (377165 bytes)Dean on carousel.jpg (498592 bytes)

But the real purpose of our visit was for Myles and I to take hang gliding lessons in nearby Trenton, Georgia.

Here's Myles getting ready to take off.  We started out on "the Bunny Hill, where if you're good, you get off the ground a foot or two.   Myles was a lot better  at this than I was.

Mary Ann and Dave just watched.   It was too windy to do much more
than that, so we had to come back another day for a taste of the real thing.

The real thing came in May, when we were strapped into hang gliders with guys
who were supposed to know what they were doing.  Then this little plane
towed us up to 2,000 feet, and we glided back down.

It was a great view from up there, with nothing between me and the ground half a mile below.   The guy said I should let go of him and steer for a while.

I hung on tight.  Very tight.  I was terrified.
