In 1949, when I was 11 years old, a B-29 bomber crashed up in the hills beyond our ranch.  Some guy wrote an article on the Web about the area a few years ago, and I let him know about the crash.  He'd been after me for a long time to come out and show him where it was.

So while I was in California for my high school reunion, I looked Ed Riffle up and we set out to see if we could find it.  It's in a pretty remote area, up a really steep slope.

I hadn't been there in over 50 years, but it hadn't changed much at all.

Here I am, using my GPS device to locate the crash site.  Ed turned out to be a swell guy and a great hiking companion.  He wrote a story about the day for his Website, called
               "Dean and Ed's Excellent Adventure."
