Have questions for all Fenleys: a.) Do you have a heavy preponderance of teachers in your family? b.) Do you also have a number of nurses and/or doctors? c.) Do you or others in your bloodline travel a lot? From what I have been able to observe of many Fenley lines, regardless of racial ethnicity, we are a God-fearing, service oriented clan. Meaning that we enjoy learning, teaching, meeting, humanity; therefore, being contributors to mankind. Thank you for inviting me to join your site. It is delightful to find "family" elsewhere. Although I am a Texas-Fenley, I lived in Michigan from 1964 through 1977 and both of my children were born there. Came home to get warm - LOL! FYI - recently corresponded with Gareth & Gowan re our collective family roots. For a real boost and delight take a peek into the life of Robert deBruc, went to the British Isles with William the Conqueror in the 900's. Over the ages, the name "deBrus" remained. The first of the name: Robert the Bruce, was kind of Scotland. This is our progenitor. We are clan Farqharson (several variations of spelling). Never thought "non-fiction" could be as enjoyable as reading fiction (especially sci fi!). More later. Libby

A couple of other facts: An Egyptian princess, named Scotia, her husband and servants landed on the west coast of Ireland and her descendants were many. One has to wonder how many of us also have Egyptian bloodlines and don't even know it! You probably already know this: there are sites available where one can view ships' lists. Some are paid sites wherein you pay a fee to join, others require buying a disk - both a fairly expensive if you are researching on a shoe string. I see you use Broderbund - There is a Fenley disk available (for approximately $50+). My brother Stu furnished them our family's information and it is included thereon. If you haven't, you might contact Broderbund and give them what you have ready regarding your lineage. Did you know: We Fenleys are a real mixed bag! In the days of clan building there were at least 5, possibly 6, races mixing their genes in. They are: Viking, Norwegian, French, Celt, ?Egyptian, ?German. A really polyglot group? In the States, freed slaves often took the name of their previous owner - usually a sign of deep respect. This does not mean they or others were fathered by the owner. I have spoken with several black people who are doing their research and have last names within my family's list. They definitely have no white blood! Live long and prosper! Libby

Well, I am home and safe after driving close to 3,000 miles. (Left Sat., 3-13, returned Fri. 3-19). Daughter, Pauline, drove from Sierra Vista, AZ, to Pasadena, slept a few hours, and then we drove in tandem to 1.) Charlotte, NC, then to 2.) Clermont, FL. Why? To see a ill friend in Charlotte (was in a head-on collision and lived to tell about it! Praise God!! We rested? 2 days and headed to Clermont to drop of Pauline's truck to her stepdaughter! Blast from the past... Found Gowan's email through a search, and he suggested I post something here. Currently live in Roseburg OR, located in southwest Oregon, abt 100 miles from CA border on I-5. Moving to Salem OR on Monday--taking similar position but in a better place. I would give you my home e-mail, but the iMac, like all else is being packed/loaded tomorrow, and rolling northward.

Dana and I recently celebrated our 13th anniversary (same day as Jeri's daughter Julia was born last year). Jim and his wife, Nora, live in FL still--just got back after fleeing hurricane Floyd. Jeri and her husband, Bill Gorden, also have a boy, almost 4 now-Benjamin. Having kids hasn't topped my list, but I'm not closing any doors either. I love the work I do, and am pretty passionate abt it. Dana is a mechanic--it's like she was born to it. I am always in general awe of mechanics, engineers,--you know all those people who have dynamite spatial ability.

Except for 1998, life has been good for, us, and we are thankful for the class of problems we have.

I should probably move along now, and get back to packing files. I haven't even worked for the agency 10 years, it's impossible for me to have accumulated this much stuff.

Interesting site. I'm one of the few Fenleys from UK. Last of a line as my sister and I were 2 daughters born to Barry Fenley originally from Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. We are now both married and have changed our names! Our original family - Grandfather Bernard - are from Yorkshire, England. Some family history in the form of a booklet was written about the Fenleys from Yorkshire by an Aunt several years ago. I'll have to try and find it as I haven't read it for about 12 years and it is gathering dust in an attic somewhere. If I have any more useful info on UK Fenleys from this book, I will send it in. I didn't realize there were so many Fenleys in US. 'I'll be back!'

Great family page!!! We are doing well. Bowling a lot! Lloyd has bowled 2 perfect 300 games so far this season. My father and myself are trying to talk him into doing some PBA tournys. Will let you know what happens. Tasha is elderly also. I noticed a little arthritis in her back legs a while ago. Since I found out I had arthritis I have been taking Glucosamine & Chondroitin and it really does help me. So I decided to give it to Tasha. Since I Have started she has been fine. I do not notice any lag in her rear any more. Maybe try that for River. It will take about 3-4 weeks before you see a difference. As you can tell I still love animals! As a matter of fact I am going to be checking out how to start a non-profit animal rescue I will go to the pounds to take the animals before they are put down and try to find homes for them. Hi FENLEY Kin, I tried posting a message yesterday (Nov.29), but I apparently did something wrong for it is not at the bottom of this list. SO, here I am again. I was born in Houston, TX (yes, I am of that endangered species--the native Houstonian), but grew up in Sabine County in East Texas near the house where my mother was born. The FENLEY's, my dad's people, came into Sabine County in the 1820's, but moved on to Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties (@ 50 mi. west of Sabine County), where many of them still are.

I became interested in tracing FENLEY family history when a cousin died and all the relatives were gathered around my aunt's kitchen table swapping family tales and spinning yarns. When I'd ask "Who (or what) was so-and-so?" the most frequent answer was "Well, so-and-so knew that but they're senile and don't remember" or "So and so knew that but (s)he's dead now." When I said "Why doesn't someone write all this down before everyone who knows anything about these stories is dead?" the whole bunch turned as one to look directly at me as if to say, "Well, what are you waiting for!" My cousin June Mechelle Watson Forester, My niece Carla Fenley Cook Schwarz, and I all have periodic spurts of active research and exchange information when any one of us hits paydirt.

I've really been lucky since I started doing online research and corresponding with some of the distant relatives I've located this way.

Since I've started keeping up with this "Fun Page Guestbook," I'm beginning to feel like I know Gowan, Donata, Gareth in real life, not just on the Internet.

I have met Doyle, Michelle, and Joey from Tomball, TX when I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival last year. I met Libby FENLEY Fulton and Bobbie FENLEY Pinner after I sat down with the Houston phone book some years ago and started calling everyone whose last name was spelled FENLEY and asking them if they were willing to talk to me about family history!

If any of you are interested in exchanging information, please email me at jfenleymoore@hotmail.com. My dad always told me that anyone who spelled his or her last name F-E-N-L-E-Y was a relative. Those who spelled their names F-I-nley may or may NOT be kinfolks. My dad had two uncles who got mad at the rest of the immediate family, moved to north and west Texas, changed their names to F-I-N-L-E-Y, and spoke only to a favorite few (my dad among them) until they died!

I'm thrilled to hear from you FENLEYs in England, Brazil, and the Netherlands, too. I am very interested in corres- ponding with you if you wish to.

I tried to raise gnf.com and kept getting a G.E. site! Finally got smart and used the Fenley.net to get back to you. Thought I had lost all of my marbles (bookmarks) when I got a new computer and didn't (think) to back them up. I had and, now that I am digging down into what's left of a 10x10 storage unit, I Found the Disk! It is so refreshing to come to your site. Considering that my ancestors went through NC, SC, GA, KY, and other places in between, to get to Texas, I am more certain than ever that our families were joined way, way back there. Have any of you looked into the Scots-Irish ships' manifests from the NC/SC coast? That is what I have decided must be tackled next. Let you know what I find sooner or later. Unlike my brother, Doyle Fenley, in Magnolia, Texas who apparently found this site sometime ago. I rarely have the opportunity to log on and look. I'm currently living in Las Vegas with my husband, Kevin, and two daughters, Jessica and Bethany. Doyle and I have one other sister, Melody, and one other brother, Philip. They both live in Houston, Texas near Doyle. I don't keep up with family history, as my older brother, Doyle, so often informs me, if I was meant to do something (ie - drive, be right, etc.) I would have been born first, so the duty of family history has fallen to him and my dad. Just thought I would say HI! since it has been awhile since I put my two cents in. Also, to let you know: my and Milton's youngest brother, Stu (Melville Stewart Fenley), died Dec. of 2000. Family affliction: colon cancer. That's the third recordable death of that nature. If you would like to visit it, a dear friend of Stu's maintains a website in tribute to Stu's memory.
